Martin Luther King Day 2019

Dear Friends

It seems like our world is raging with more anger, tension, and finger-pointing than any other time that I can recall.  Shootings, shutdowns, hashtags, and hurt have taken over our airwaves.  Its due time for peace, reconciliation, and healing.  Sometimes we just have to imagine something different, something hopeful, something beautiful.

As the nation celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day today, I would challenge us to pause and remember the beautiful vision of a new day that MLK inspired in a nation.   I understand this day may not have the same significance for all of us, but it is a critical part of our nation’s DNA.

My challenge for you all today, whatever your history, your political bent, your hurts; I encourage you to reflect on the words of MLK’s, I Have a Dream speech.   Look past the person.  Instead, hear his words, take on his challenge, and dream something beautiful with him.

The link below is an excerpt from that historic day.

I encourage you to watch it together as a staff.  Share it with your children. Talk about it with your spouses.  May those words echo in your hearts like it did many years ago from our nation’s capital.

You will find MLK’s full speech below, but let me close with one of my favorite sections of his speech filled with hope and beauty.

“This is our hope. This is the faith with which I return to the South.

With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.

With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.

With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together,

knowing that we will be free one day.”

Thank you for this amazing privilege to share.

Blessings on the Journey,
